No concrete timetable for David Wright to resume throwing

Following a diagnosis of a shoulder impingement for New York Mets third baseman David Wright earlier this week, the 34-year-old told Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News there isn’t much of a timetable for him in regards to throwing again.

“It’s kind of been told to me, if I do the rehab correctly, if I give it time to strengthen the shoulder to get the shoulder working properly, everything should be good to go, obviously with some maintenance from here on,” Wright said Thursday afternoon. “But when you have that major neck surgery that I had, I certainly wasn’t expecting problems to come with it, but ultimately, I guess you’d be a little naive that everything was going to be smooth sailing after a major neck surgery.”

Wright also adds this is “a little bump in the road,” and will give everything towards his rehabilitation and wants to return as soon as possible.

With Wright on the sidelines for an unknown amount of time, it’s looking like the job will go to Jose Reyes who was released from the Rockies last season and picked up by the Mets. Reyes currently has a career .289 batting average and is a natural shortstop who has been also taking some reps in the outfield. Wilmer Flores and T.J. Rivera could also get some playing time at the hot corner as well.

The 13-year veteran finished his 2016 campaign with a .226/.350/.438 line tacking on seven home runs and 14 RBI’s.
