Jack Del Rio on Patriots’ offseason: ‘I do cringe a little bit’

Jack Del Rio

Oakland (soon to be Las Vegas) Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio admitted what must be on everyone’s mind this offseason concerning the New England Patriots. He’s a bit frightened about the additions they’ve made, just a month removed from winning Super Bowl LI.

Specifically, the Pats’ move to acquire Brandin Cooks in a trade with the New Orleans Saints has Del Rio worried.

That wasn’t the only bold move New England made to improve its roster, either. The Patriots traded for tight end Dwayne Allen, brought in high-priced cornerback Stephon Gimore and brought back linebacker Dont’a Hightower, just to name a few other big-time moves.

But of them all, Del Rio was right to highlight Cooks. This is a player Patriots owner Robert Kraft sees as comparable to Randy Moss in terms of how he can affect the offense (more on that here).

No matter how you slice it, what the Patriots did this offseason (so far) should have the rest of the AFC teams shaking in their boots. As for the Raiders, they’re probably the team best equipped to challenge the Patriots in 2017, provided Derek Carr can stay on the field. Adding Marshawn Lynch couldn’t hurt their chances, though that’s something that might be nothing more than a dream.
