Wade Phillips jokes about coaching under Sean McVay with the Rams

Long-time NFL coach Wade Phillips just joined the Los Angeles Rams as the team’s defensive coordinator. This comes after a tremendous two-year stint as the Denver Broncos’ defensive coordinator. It’s a tenure that included Phillips winning his first Super Bowl in a 41 years as a coach in the NFL.

Phillips now heads to Los Angeles to coach under new Rams head coach Sean McVay, who just turned 31 in January and has only been in the NFL for seven seasons.

So yeah, there’s somewhat of an interesting dynamic in play here. For his part, Phillips isn’t afraid to avoid what could be an awkward pairing. And in true Wade Phillips fashion, it came in a light-hearted manner.

Per the usual, Phillips isn’t afraid to use some self-deprecating sense of humor. It’s been his MO for some time now. And it’s this personality that should help the Rams turn it around, both on and off the field.

Side note here. At 69 years old, Phillips is technically old enough to by McVay’s grandfather. Though, when it comes to coaching, he’s about as youthful as it gets.
