Texas Rangers’ Twitter account gets punny in search for Brady’s jersey

After leading the New England Patriots over the Atlanta Falcons in an epic, come-from-behind overtime Super Bowl win, Tom Brady essentially became the greatest quarterback of all time. He won his fifth NFL title with the win in Super Bowl LI, which puts him in rarefied air all on his own as far as quarterbacks are concerned.

The win was historic, making the memorabilia that was part of it equally as historic, and valuable.

So when Brady’s game-winning jersey went missing (presumably stolen) out of the Patriots’ locker room after the game (by these guys, maybe?), Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick decided to bring in the big guns. He called on the Texas Rangers, the unit tasked with leading criminal investigations for major crimes and other serious police work, to assist in finding Brady’s historic jersey.

Of course, when mentioning the Rangers, this guy probably comes to mind, but so do these guys, and the latter decided that Ian Rapoport’s tweet passing on Patrick’s statement was a great time to get a little punny on the internet.

Now, it’s worth noting that this is a serious criminal investigation and there is a ton of history — and money — at stake. But at the same time, historic or not, it is just a jersey.

Whoever is running the Rangers’ Twitter account probably deserves a raise, or at least an audition to become a writer on SNL. And props to those who figured out this pun without having to wonder why in the world the Lt. Governer of Texas would call on a baseball team to help him find a football player’s jersey.

Unlike this writer, you’re the real MVP.
