Texas Rangers increase pursuit for Jose Quintana

According to USA Today Sports’ Bob Nightengale, the Texas Rangers have “suddenly increased their pursuit” of  Chicago White Sox left-handed pitcher Jose Quintana.

Before Rangers fans start designing personalized jerseys, Nightengale stresses that the 2016 AL West Champions aren’t making it clear whether they will pull the trigger on the deal.

Quintana would be a perfect addition to a rotation that is still up in the air. With a starting squad containing Yu Darvish, Cole Hamels, Martin Perez and Andrew Cashner, he could be the missing puzzle piece. Especially after Texas signed Tyson Ross who suffered a rare injury (thoracic outlet syndrome) resulting in surgery in October. He may not be ready for Opening Day at the moment. He, of course, is stellar when he’s healthy.

The inclusion of Quintana could ease the Rangers pitchers who do tend to suffer from injuries. He’s coming off of an All-Star season finishing with a career-best 3.20 ERA and a 13-12 record in 32 games.

Still, most seem skeptical that anything will happen in regards to this particular landing spot, so this continues to be a “wait and see” scenario.

Until then, here’s a video of Quintana striking out Yoenis Cespedes.
