Spring league officially sends invite to Johnny Manziel

Johnny Manziel

Back in December, an announcement was made about the creation of a new professional football league that will take place during the spring. While the NFL is not officially affiliated with the league, a ton of former NFL players will take part.

It would appear that free agent quarterback Johnny Manziel has received an official invite letter to join, according to TMZ Sports. The young quarterback, along with NFL free agents Ray Rice and Vince Young, were scoped out by the league in January.

The independent pro football league will consist of four squads of veteran free agent players. Other free agents who have already committed to the league are former NFL defensive end Greg Hardy and tight end Kellen Winslow Jr.

Representatives from all 32 teams will reportedly be present at the league’s games. The season starts April 5 and runs through April 26.

If Manziel accepts the invitation, he will have to follow some required conditions, according to TMZ. He must have nightly check-ins by 9:30 at night with a league staff member. Manziel also must take and pass a drug test on the first day of the league.

Manziel recently announced his sobriety and has expressed his desire to get back into playing football. Should he accept this invitation, it could present him the opportunity he needs to prove that he on the right track to bettering himself.

Manziel played two tumultuous seasons with the Cleveland Browns from 2014-15.
