The saga of Brandon Jennings’ impending free agency has been unexpectedly potent, with the latest and potentially last twist coming on Tuesday. Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reports that Jennings and the Washington Wizards are “enthusiastic” about completing a deal once the point guard clears waivers.

This comes after Detroit Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy mistakenly said Monday that Jennings would be signing with Charlotte (more on that here). The Wizards make more sense, fitting Jennings’ want of playing for a contender.

The veteran point guard will back up John Wall if a deal does happen. Currently, Trey Burke is averaging 12.4 minutes per game with 14.1 points and 5.1 assists per 36 minutes in that role. Jennings, averaging 12.5 points and 7.2 assists per 36, would represent an upgrade for the Wizards as they gear up for the postseason.
