The Buffalo Bills, under new management, might be on the precipice of cutting one of their best interior lineman, Pro Bowler Kyle Williams.
According to Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News, Williams is very vulnerable to being dumped this offseason as the team looks to carve out cap space and get younger.
Williams is set to earn a base salary of $6.3 million next season and carries a cap hit of $8.3 million. The Bills would save $6.8 million by releasing the 33-year-old veteran.
It’s always possible that Williams might be willing to accept a pay cut to remain with the team, if the Bills are interested in keeping him on at all. It seems likely the team would want to retain his services, however, given his outstanding production throughout his 11-year career, all spent in Buffalo.
This past season, Williams started 15 games, logging 64 total tackles (42 solo) and five sacks. He’s clearly still capable of making a big impact and would be a solid addition to teams running a 4-3 defense.
Of course, there remains the possibility that Williams could decide to retire if he is released by the Bills.
