This isn’t shocking whatsoever. The Panthers indicated a while back that Short would be a player they absolutely would not lose.
The past couple of seasons, there haven’t been many interior NFL linemen to create as much havoc as Short does on a regular basis. He’s extremely disruptive and hauled in 17 sacks from 2015-16. Needless to say, he’s a player Carolina hopes to keep for a long time.
That said, we’re going to be waiting to see what happens if no long-term contract is worked out between now and the deadline. Short was not pleased at all last season during a contract stalemate with Carolina and threatened to skip offseason workouts as a result.
Though, even if no long-term deal is struck, it’s worth noting Short will earn around $13 million guaranteed.
