Report: Magic turned down a deal to acquire DeMarcus Cousins

DeMarcus Cousins trade

The Orlando Magic seem to be doing everything possible to revamp what has become a struggling roster. The team moved Serge Ibaka to the Toronto Raptors earlier this month and has been engaged in trade talks surrounding Detroit Pistons guard Reggie Jackson.

It makes sense that Orlando would want to blow this whole thing up. It heads into the All-Star Break with the second-worst record in the Eastern Conference and is completely out of the playoff race. In all, the team has missed out on the playoffs in each of the past four seasons.

Unfortunately for fans in Orlando, the Magic apparently passed up on the opportunity to acquire Sacramento Kings big man DeMarcus Cousins recently.

At least, that’s according to Bleacher Report’s Ric Bucher.

That in and of itself would have been a major deal for both teams.

Sending away Nikola Vucevic and Evan Fournier as well as draft picks for Cousins would have been a pretty large bounty to pay. But it’s becoming increasingly obvious that Cousins himself is the best center in the entire NBA. This, despite his enigmatic tenure in California’s capital city.

For his part, Cousins has made it clear that he wants to sign long-term extension with the Sacramento Kings. It’s a possibility that, as Bucher reports, the Kings themselves might not be sold on.
