Report: Jets will not exercise Ryan Clady’s option, making him a free agent

The New York Jets will be in the market for a new starting left tackle when free agency gets going. Ryan Clady himself will also be looking for a new home.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Jets have notified Clady that they will not be picking up his $10 million option for the 2017 season.

This shouldn’t necessarily come as too much of a surprise. Playing under what now has to be considered a one-year deal, Clady missed seven games to injury this past season. That came on the heels of Clady missing the entire 2015 campaign with the Denver Broncos due to a torn ACL.

The former Pro Bowler was acquired by New York last spring after D’Brickashaw Ferguson abruptly announced his retirement. Based in his recent injury history, it’s hard to tell whether there will be a strong market for Clady.
