This isn’t shocking news whatsoever, as ESPN’s Marc Stein previously reported Williams would sign with Cleveland if he did clear waivers.
Williams brings more than a decade of NBA experience to an already experienced Cleveland roster geared for another long playoff run after the 2016-17 season. He averaged 13.1 points and 6.9 assists for the Mavs and gives the Cavs the point guard help LeBron James was vocal about landing earlier this year.
Though Williams isn’t the same player he was during the early portion of his career in Utah, he’s still a valuable asset for Cleveland heading down the home stretch and into the playoffs.
