Report: ‘Bears have actively started seeking a trade partner’ for Jay Cutler

Jay Cutler

Eight years as the Chicago Bears’ quarterback may be enough for Jay Cutler. According to a report, the team is actively trying to find a trade partner for him.

It’s hard to see any surprise there. The Bears haven’t been to the playoffs since 2010. Over the last three seasons, Chicago has gone 14-34. This is a franchise that really needs to embrace a full youth movement and rebuild. A soon-to-be 34-year-old quarterback doesn’t fit into that terribly well.

Finding a trade partner, however, will not be easy. Over the last three seasons, Cutler has completed 64.5 percent of his passes with 53 touchdowns, 34 interceptions and a passer rating of 88.9. He also missed most of the 2016 season with an injury. The Arizona Cardinals, a win now team, have no interest in Cutler, which you can read about here. It’s hard to imagine a rebuilding team (like the Bears) being any more interested.

With that said, a number of teams have serious issues at the quarterback position. It wouldn’t be surprising to see one express willingness to gamble on Cutler, especially if Chicago is actively trying to find a partner.
