Pelicans waive Omri Casspi, sign Reggie Williams to 10-day contract

Reggie Williams

Less than a week after being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans, forward Omri Casspi has been waived so the team could sign Reggie Williams to a 10-day contract.

The Pelicans announced both moves on the team’s website.

Casspi was a player that was brought to New Orleans in the trade the team made to acquire center DeMarcus Cousins from Sacramento (details here).

In his debut for New Orleans, Casspi scored 12 points and hauled in two rebounds, playing 24 minutes off the bench. On the season, Casspi is averaging 6.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists playing 18.3 minutes per game. He was unfortunately dealing with an injured thumb, which led to his release.

Williams is a player who has logged five previous games with the Pelicans, scoring five points per game and draining half his three-point attempts.

The former undrafted free agent out of Virginia Military Institute, Williams has played in 27 games this season for the Oklahoma City Blue of the NBA D-League, averaging 18.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 33.3 minutes per contest.
