Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant promises to receive quite the reaction when he makes his first appearance in Oklahoma City as a visitor on Saturday night.
Once beloved by Thunder fans, Durant has become public enemy No. 1 in the community. His decision to leave Oklahoma City for a team that defeated the Thunder in last year’s Western Conference Finals has not gone over well. It’s so bad that Durant and his former teammates are not on speaking terms (more on that here).
Following what promises to be a drama-filled game at Chesapeake Energy Arena, Durant and his team attempted to get reservations at the popular Mahogany Prime Steakhouse, attempts that proved to be futile.
“Popular Oklahoma City restaurant Mahogany Prime Steakhouse turned down a request by Kevin Durant’s representatives to rent out the entire restaurant following the Warriors’ game Saturday night against the Thunder,” ESPN’s Royce Young reported on Saturday.
Ouch. Talk about not feeling wanted. The scene Saturday night should be similar to what we saw in Cleveland when LeBron James, then a member of the Miami heat, returned home a few years back. It won’t be uplifting for Durant. Instead, expect him to be met with a hostile environment.
Let’s just hope he’s able to actually eat after the game.
