Former Saints WR Robert Meachem in jail after failing to pay alimony, child support

Robert Meachem

Former first-round pick of the New Orleans Saints back in 2007, Robert Meachem is in some serious hot water after failing to pay alimony and child support to ex-wife, Andrea Rhodes.

According to Wilborn P. Nobles III of nola.com, Meachem owes almost $400,000 to Rhodes. As a result of his failure to come through with the required funds, Meachem was ordered by Judge Adrian Adams of the 24th Judicial District Court in Gretna to either pay Rhodes $100,000 or stay in jail until March 15, per the report, citing court clerk minutes from Jefferson Parish.

Meachem and Rhodes separated in 2014 and share custody of their children. Per the report, Meachem agreed to pay $20,000 each month to Rhodes as part of their settlement.

Rhodes has also accused Meachem, through her representation, of secretly taking $1.8 million from an account they once shared. Additionally, she alleges he “caused more than $5.8 million to disappear from the former couple’s joint investment accounts,” which he has explained away by saying business associates stole millions from him.

In his eight years in the NFL, playing for both the Saints and San Diego Chargers, Meachem brought in $22.59 million in cash earnings, per Spotrac.

He last played in 2014 with the Saints, appearing in 11 games while catching seven passes for 114 yards. Throughout his career, Meachem caught 178 passes for 2,914 yards and 27 touchdowns.
