Emmanuel Sanders says he drank two gallons of water at combine to gain weight

Emmanuel Sanders

Denver Broncos receiver Emmanuel Sanders isn’t a big guy, which is something he was worried NFL scouts would count against him during his pre-draft process in 2010.

As a means to combat this, Sanders took extraordinary measures he took to change the script.

“I’m a small guy, so prior to weighing in I ended up drinking like two gallons of water so I was so bloated and full of water, I got up to like 185 pounds, just to show teams that I’m not a small guy,” Sanders said.

Just how small was he back then?

Sanders is now listed at 5-foot-11 and 186 pounds, so either he’s still chugging water during weigh-ins or he’s bulked up a bit since his college days. To give you an idea about how much Sanders gained by drinking two gallons of water, consider that one gallon weighs 8.344 pounds.

Size hasn’t been an issue for Sanders, who was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round. He’s caught 417 passes for 5,601 yards and 31 touchdowns throughout his career, and he recently inked a three-year, $33 million contract with the Denver Broncos.
