Eagles release starting CB Leodis McKelvin, save $3.2 million in cap space

In a salary-cap move that will help shape their roster in 2017, the Philadelphia Eagles have released Leodis McKelvin, who started 12 games this past season.

This roster move saves Philadelphia $3.2 million in cap space for the upcoming season.

Drafted No. 11 overall back in 2008 out of Troy, McKelvin spent his first eight seasons in Buffalo and started 72 games during that time.

This past season with the Eagles, McKelvin tallied 43 tackles and two interceptions, including one he took back for a touchdown. However, he was also routinely torched and received a below-average grade by the folks at Pro Football Focus for his efforts.

At the age of 31, it’s likely McKelvin will get another shot to play this season given the need for experienced cornerbacks in today’s NFL. That said, his best days are clearly behind him, and he’ll likely have some work to do in order to remain active on game days.
