Dak Prescott wants Tony Romo ‘to end up in Denver or on a good team’

NFL Players, Tony Romo

Feeling comfortable as the undisputed starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys heading into 2017, Dak Prescott just wants Tony Romo to be happy.

Appearing on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football Friday, Prescott revealed he wants to see Romo head to a good team to finish out his career.

“Whatever makes him happy,” Prescott said. “If he wants to play, he’s still got another couple years in him, then I want to see him end up in Denver or on a good team, a team that’s said that adding him just makes it that much better.

Having said that, Prescott added, “To me, he’s a Cowboy. It would be hard to see that guy in a different uniform.”

No doubt, this is a sentiment many Cowboys fans share. It also seems to be one team owner Jerry Jones shares, though we have to believe he’s bracing for the inevitable moment when Romo leaves Dallas for good (more on that here).

Carrying a $24.7 million cap hit into the 2017 season, it’s hard to imagine any team that is just a quarterback away from contending would trade for Romo. That said, if he is released by Dallas, it stands to reason there would be some heavy competition for his services. Though, given his medical history we would also expect any new contract to be incentive-laden, which is something Romo is reportedly amenable to signing.

Regardless of what happens next, it’s nice that Prescott has such high regard for his mentor this past year and wants nothing but the best for him.
