Report: Giants hope to re-sign Jason Pierre Paul before free agency

Jason Pierre-Paul may be a pending free agent, but his career with the New York Giants may not be over. In fact, if the Giants have their way, he may not even reach free agency.

“I do expect them to make a legitimate run in the coming days and weeks,” Mike Garafolo said on the NFL Network. “They will try and get a deal done before he can potentially hit the free agent market.”

New York has already taken some of the steps that may be necessary to bringing J.P.P. back.

On Monday, the Giants cleared salary cap space by releasing both Rashad Jennings and Victor Cruz.

Pierre-Paul figures to cash in, and he has a target contract in mind already (more on that here). He was one of the key cogs in New York’s strong 2016 defense, recording seven sacks. Additionally, JPP is only 28, a prime age for pass rushers to make big money.
