Report: Royals close to signing Brandon Moss

The Kansas City Royals are apparently close to adding more pop to their lineup. According to ESPN’s Jim Bowden, the team is close to signing veteran Brandon Moss. Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Passan is reporting that the deal is with $12 million over two seasons.

Moss, 33, hit .225 with 28 homers and 68 RBI for the St Louis Cardinals last season. While he boasts an incredibly high strikeout rate, Moss has been a consistent source of power dating back to his days with the Oakland Athletics in 2012. In fact, the veteran has hit 20-plus homers in four of the past five seasons.

While moss did split time between first base and the corner outfield positions for St. Louis last season, he figures to act as the Royals’ primary designated hitter. This is a role he filled to an extent as a member of the A’s. It should help him produce at a higher level from the plate.
