Report: ‘Good chance’ Chip Kelly gets offer from Jaguars

Chip Kelly is in Jacksonville Monday interviewing for the team’s open offensive coordinator position, and a report indicates there is a good chance he’ll get an offer.

Kelly might have good reason to believe he’ll get the offer for the job. He was interviewed for the team’s head coaching vacancy before that position was given to interim head coach Doug Marrone. The man running the show now is former New York Giants and Jaguars head coach Tom Coughlin. He’s already stated that Blake Bortles will continue to be given every opportunity to start for the Jags in 2017, and Marrone is a big believer in the young passer.

Hiring Kelly would be another indicator that the team is completely dedicated to helping Bortles rebound from his miserable 2016 season. Kelly has a history of getting the best out of his quarterbacks and runs a very quarterback-friendly offense, which can be seen in the way he helped Nick Foles and Colin Kaepernick produce with the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers.

If Kelly does land this job, he’d have his most talented group of receivers since joining the NFL. Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns and Marqise Lee all possess game-breaking abilities, and tight end Julius Thomas has that same potential.
