Report: Bills could name Anthony Lynn head coach soon

The Buffalo Bills made it rather clear during the regular season that they view interim head coach Anthony Lynn favorably. He started out the season as the team’s running backs coach, only to be promoted to offensive coordinator when Greg Roman was fired in September.

Then, a few short months later, Lynn became Buffalo’s interim head coach when it fired Rex Ryan.

So it seems natural that the team would give Lynn the opportunity to prove his worth to become the full-time head coach.

That’s happening today.

Now, according to Bills beat writer Vic Carucci it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Bills ended their head coaching search on Thursday.

That’s a clear indication that Lynn is the front runner for the head coaching job and could be hired in that role here in relatively short order.

Again, none of this should be seen as a surprise. Buffalo would have to move fast to retain Lynn, especially considering the interest he’s received from teams with head-coaching vacancies. In fact, he just recently interviewed with the San Francisco 49ers.

If Lynn is the first coach to be hired, it will likely set into motion other teams making decisions on where they stand in their searches. With San Francisco and Denver showing real interest in him, this could set the dynamic for the rest of the month.
