Raiders T Donald Penn expects to return next week

Donald Penn

Should the Oakland Raiders come out on top in their Wild Card matchup with the Houston Texans on Saturday, they will have a major cog back on the field next week.

One day after being ruled out of this weekend’s game with a knee injury, Penn indicated that there’s a small fracture in the knee that won’t require surgery. This has him prepared to play in the divisional round should Oakland advance.

It’s a bit of good news for the Raiders. Though, Penn’s absence for Saturday’s game could have wide-ranging ramifications. It’s always a less-than-ideal scenario when a team is missing its starting left tackle. Add in the fact that rookie Connor Cook is making his first NFL start, and that’s magnified even further.

At the very least, Oakland can look forward to having Penn back on the field if it were to come away with a road win on Saturday.
