NYC Mayor sends supplies to fix Odell Beckham Jr.’s hole at Lambeau Field

Odell Beckham Jr. is one of many NFL players who has a lot to prove in a contract year

Odell Beckham Jr.’s infamous punch in the wall at Lambeau Field has garnered no small amount of media attention. It’s also garnered the attention of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.

While the New York Giants continue to investigate the alleged wall punch attributed to OBJ, the Mayor has already taken steps to make amends.

“De Blasio sent drywall, plaster and a trowel to Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt to repair the hole that was caused when Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. reportedly punched the wall after the team’s 38-13 loss to the Packers in a Wild-Card game last Sunday,” writes Dan Duggan of NJ.com. “The supplies were sent in addition to cheesecake and bagels, which were the initial stakes in the mayors’ bet. If the Giants had won, Schmitt would have sent de Blasio Titletown root beer, cheese curds and brats.”

De Blasio also said he was disappointed with Beckham Jr. for allegedly defacing the historic stadium, per FOX 11 News.

This sentiment echoes what head coach Ben McAdoo had to say about the actions of his star receiver, who reportedly was so upset after his no-show performance at Lambeau Field that he was banging his head into the locker before slamming his fist into the wall.

While it’s likely the hole was already patched up well before de Blasio sent the supplies to Schmitt in Green Bay, the gesture is one we can all appreciate.

The immaturity Beckham Jr. has displayed all year culminated with him exploding like a petulant child after he failed to produce in the biggest game of the year for the Giants. It was embarrassing not only for him, but also for the franchise and the city it represents.

Hopefully the young receiver can learn from his mistakes and figures out how to temper his emotions in the future.
