NFL moving Steelers-Chiefs game to Sunday night because of ice storm

The NFL has moved the Divisional Round matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs to Sunday night to avoid playing in the worst of an ice storm moving into the area.

The AFC Playoff game, originally set to begin at 1:05 p.m. ET at Arrowhead Stadium will now take place at 8:20 p.m.

The ice storm moving into Missouri has already had an impact on ticket prices heading into Sunday’s game.

“Ticket prices have dropped below $30 on the secondary market,” wrote A.J. Perez of USA Today Sports. “StubHub had more than 7,000 tickets for sale as of Friday. The weather seems to be making fans leery. The cheapest seats for the game went for $134 on Sunday on ticket tracking and resale site SeatGeek but could be had for as little as $27 on Friday.”

The weather is set to be brutal Sunday. According to the National Weather Service (via weather.com), freezing rain is expected to be in effect throughout Sunday afternoon and into the evening. This storm will make it difficult for fans to get to the stadium safely, not to mention how it will impact the play on the field.

Players would be advised to bundle up as much as possible, but we know many likely won’t. It’s going to be interesting to see how the Steelers and Chiefs play in this one. Both teams are accustomed to playing in rough weather, but this storm sounds a bit more extreme than most.
