LeBron James meets with Cavaliers GM

LeBron James

There’s drama in Cleveland as the Cavaliers look to repeat as NBA champions. Fresh off criticism of his team’s recent performance, LeBron James apparently met face-to-face with Cavaliers general manager David Griffin.

The meeting came amid rumors swirling that the New York Knicks had offered Carmelo Anthony to the Cavaliers in a deal that would have included Kevin Love heading to the Big Apple (more on that here).

It’s not yet known what the meeting entailed, but we’re sure it had something to do with LeBron’s public declaration that the Cavaliers need another playmaker.

From Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com.

“The Cavs met as a team and general manager David Griffin addressed LeBron James personally Wednesday to discuss James’ myriad assertions about the roster after Monday’s loss to New Orleans.”

For his part Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue spoke about the topic prior to the team’s game against the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday.

In part, he had this to say.

“I’m a coach. I don’t make business decisions. I don’t make trades,” Lue told reporters. “I don’t bring guys, so that’s not my job. My job is to get this team ready to play, play better and that’s it.”

Cleveland headed into Wednesday’s game having lost five of its past seven, including a recent defeat at the hands of a New Orleans Pelicans squad that was playing without Anthony Davis.

James’ criticism of the team’s roster is rather interesting in that he has both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love healthy. The Cavaliers also added sharpshooter Kyle Korver to the mix recently.

Whether this meeting was enough to diffuse the situation remains to be seen. What we do know is that Cleveland remains the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
