Packers WR Jordy Nelson ruled out Sunday against Cowboys

The Green Bay Packers will be without Jordy Nelson during their Divisional Round matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

The receiver has multiple fractured ribs and spent a night in the hospital last weekend after being carted into the locker room from the sideline following a big hit to his rib cage.

Earlier this week, Aaron Rodgers said Nelson was talking about potentially going with a flak jacket to play through the injury this Sunday. But obviously that was ruled out as an option, which is something the quarterback appeared resigned to accept a bit later in the week.

That Nelson will be missed is without question a hard truth the Packers will have to work through. With 97 receptions for 1,257 yards and 14 touchdowns, Nelson was the team’s top receiver all year long and has been Rodgers’ go-to guy for the past handful of seasons when healthy.

Without Nelson in the lineup, it will fall to the likes of Davante Adams and Randall Cobb to pick up the slack. They’ll need to be on their game Sunday against the Cowboys, a team that lost just three times all year, the final loss coming in a throw-away game in Week 17 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
