Former NFL star RB Arian Foster plans to pursue degree in physics

Arian Foster used to shred NFL defenses on a weekly basis. Now he plans on shredding through some heavy duty science textbooks in his life after football, among other things.

After spending eight years in the league, mostly with the Houston Texans before spending a final season with the Miami Dolphins, Foster retired at the age of 30. While many NFL stars have found that decision to be a difficult one, such was not the case for the former running back.

“It was easier for me, just knowing that you have outside passions, outside things that you also fell in love with throughout your career,” said Foster during an autograph appearance at the Super Bowl LI NFL Fan Experience on Saturday at the George R. Brown Convention Center (h/t Matt Young of the Houston Chronicle). “So it was a little easier.”

Those who have followed Foster closely aren’t surprised by these comments. Despite the fact that he ascended to stardom as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee in 2009, and despite the fact that he loved to play the game of football, his outside interests were always near the surface, if not bubbling over.

So what will he do now that football isn’t a part of his life?

“Bucket lists, I’m going to travel a for a while, enjoy life. Then, work on my other passions which is arts and sciences. They’re separate – arts and sciences,” Foster said. “I’m going to pursue a degree in physics and see where else life takes me.”

The laws of nature and the mysteries of the universe have their hold on Foster, and we can’t wait to see where his love of arts and sciences takes him in the future.
