Leave it to a comic to make light of what could have been a devastating situation. Comedian and actor David Spade recently joked about wide receiver Michael Floyd’s DUI.

“I’ve never seen a guy profit more from a DUI,” said Spade to TMZ Sports.” He also said he has “never seen a DUI turn a guy’s life around more.”

Spade’s words were lighthearted and teasing of course. But the reality is, Floyd could have actually injured or killed another human being with his terrible behavior.

Floyd was immediately released by the Arizona Cardinals after getting arrested for a DUI in December. The Cardinals apparently exercised a zero-tolerance policy in this situation.

In a case of “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure,” the Patriots saw some value in adding Floyd to their roster shortly after he was waived.

For now, he is on the path to the Super Bowl while his former Cardinals are done for the season. We will see what the future beyond this season holds for Floyd. He will be a free agent, and at some point is also facing mandatory jail time for the DUI.
