Report: Aqib Talib lawyer confirms Broncos CB shot himself in leg

Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

Not that there was much doubt about it, but the lawyer for Aqib Talib has confirmed that his client did in fact shoot himself in his leg last June.

According to Mike Klis of 9News in Denver, Talib’s lawyer “confirmed our reports by notifying Dallas police in a letter stating the Broncos defensive back did indeed accidentally shoot himself.”

The Dallas Police Department came to that conclusion after its investigation, so it’s not necessarily a big surprise that an admission was forthcoming.

In his report, Klis says the NFL is still reviewing Talib’s case and that the cornerback could still be in violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy, even though he was never charged by police like what happened to Plaxico Burress back in 2008.

If the NFL does find that Talib violated its personal conduct policy, then he would be subject to a suspension, per Klis.

One of the most talented cover corners in the NFL, Talib is a key player on Denver’s No Fly Zone defensive secondary. He has intercepted at least three passes in each of his last four seasons and has returned five of them for touchdowns the past three years.

Needless to say, losing Talib for any period of time would be hard to overcome for the Broncos, especially now that the team’s offense is in complete rebuilding mode.
