Todd Bowles indicates Sheldon Richardson has been disciplined

The New York Jets put up a stinker of a performance against the Miami Dolphins this past Saturday night. It most definitely wasn’t a good look for the team in front of its home crowd.

Though, most of the talk surrounding the Jets since has been about a video that surfaced showing defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson seemingly taking the game itself in a less-than-serious manner while going on an expletive-laden rant. The video, which Richardson now claims was a joke between friends, surfaced after the humiliating loss.

Following up with what Richardson himself mentioned on Tuesday, Jets head coach Todd Bowles indicated recently that the enigmatic defensive lineman has indeed been disciplined by the team.

Though, Bowles did go out of his way to defend his star defender.

“It’s not a recurring thing,” Bowles said. “Again, we don’t condone what he did. He didn’t go out and rob a bank. He didn’t shoot anybody. He said two foul words on Snapchat. In the day of Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, anything you say in the line of business we are in is detrimental to the team,” Bowles said, via Pro Football Talk. “We don’t condone it. We don’t want it. It was a mistake on his part. He understands that. He was remorseful. We handled it internally. That’s the best I can give you.”

Now, Bowles did conclude that the situation as been taken care of internally. This likely means that Richardson isn’t facing much more than a fine for his actions.

If it was meant to be a joke between teammates, it appears that Richardson is only guilty of bad judgment here. We’ve seen players get in trouble over errors in judgement within the social media world. He probably should have known there was a possibility this video would surface.
