Report: No guarantee Adrian Peterson will return this season

Adrian Peterson

Adrian Peterson hopes to return to the Minnesota Vikings before the end of the 2016 season. But according to a report, that’s becoming less likely.

“With exactly one month to go in the regular season, the current thinking is that Peterson could lose his race against time,” Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk said.” As one source with knowledge of the situation explained it to PFT, Peterson continues to work hard in an effort to get back, and he badly wants to return. At this point, however, it’s not certain that he’ll make it.”

It had been previously thought that Peterson was “on track” to play. Ahead of Minnesota’s Week 13 game against the Dallas Cowboys, Peterson was doing some light workouts in practice.

Despite the optimism, a 2016 return was always a long shot. Peterson underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in September. Returning a few months after that would be a challenge for any athlete. Given that Peterson is 31, his task is even tougher.

The Vikings could certainly use a healthy Peterson. Following a 5-0 start, Minnesota has struggles mightily and now finds itself in a tough battle to even make the playoffs.
