Report: Kings hit DeMarcus Cousins with ‘substantial fine’

DeMarcus Cousins trade

At some point, it’s apparent that this entire DeMarcus Cousins and Sacramento Kings marriage isn’t going to work. In reality, an argument can be made that the Kings have enabled Cousins’ immature and oftentimes absurd behavior by catering to him at every turn.

The latest example of this is a situation earlier this month in which Cousins had a heated altercation with Sacramento Bee reporter Andy Furillo.

Now comes this report from ESPN suggesting that the Kings have levied a ‘substantial fine‘ against Cousins for his actions. In addition to that, the team released a statement.

“The Kings have a clear set of standards of conduct expected of our entire organization,” the statement read. “As a result of negative interactions with certain members of the media that were not corrected after verbal warnings, we have decided to impose a substantial fine,” the team said in the statement. “

Cousins’ history is by now well known. Whether it was the multiple incidents he found himself in with former Kings head coach George Karl or off-putting public remarks about the organization, Cousins has been nothing less than a cancer during his time in California’s capital city.

And while the Kings decided to take a strong stance against Cousins this time around, their history of enabling his actions surely plays a role in his immaturity. Failing to suspend him for Cousins’ latest tirade is yet another example of this.
