Matthew Stafford on Pro Bowl snub: ‘Am I unlikeable? Is that the problem?’

Matthew Stafford

The Detroit Lions head into Week 16 in first place in the NFC North with a 9-5 record. They’ll likely earn a trip to the postseason. They also did not boast a single Pro Bowler when the rosters were announced earlier this week.

Among the biggest snubs, quarterback Matthew Stafford missed out on being selected to his second Pro Bowl. This, despite the fact that he’s posted 3,720 yards with 22 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Though, those who finished ahead of him in the vote have obviously earned the right to play in the meaningless game. Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers and Dak Prescott have had stellar seasons for their teams, all of whom are in playoff contention.

With Prescott and his Dallas Cowboys, they are on the verge of earning the No. 1 seed in the NFC. He’s also put up 26 total touchdowns compared to four interceptions on the season.

In touching on his perceived snub and whether the Pro Bowl itself is s popularity contest, Stafford jokingly had this to say.

Well, let’s hope it was a joke. No one needs to be feeling sorry for a dude that’s earning $22.5 million in 2016 and gets to go home with this lovely lady every night.

In reality, Stafford will find a way to the Pro Bowl short of his Lions making a trip to the far more important Super Bowl in February. It’s more than likely that one of the quarterbacks ahead of him in the voting will lead his team out of the NFC.

In any event, we applaud Stafford for the season he’s had. And no, you’re not unlikeable at all.
