Julio Jones out again for Falcons in Week 15

Julio Jones

After missing Week 14 with a toe injury, Atlanta Falcons receiver Julio Jones will not play again in Week 15 when the team hosts the San Francisco 49ers.

Head coach Dan Quinn announced this development Friday.

News came out this week that Jones is dealing with a sprained toe, rather than the nagging turf toe injury that can shelf players for a long period of time (more on that here).

Unquestionably one of the NFL’s most dangerous offensive weapons, Jones has put up prolific numbers for the Falcons once again in 2016. In 12 games, he has caught 72 passes for a league-leading 1,253 yards and has caught five touchdown passes.

Without him in the lineup this past week when Atlanta hit the road to face the Los Angeles Rams, Ryan still had great success, with third-year receiver Taylor Gabriel once again playing a big role on offense (three catches, 82 yards and a touchdown).

The Falcons had no trouble whatsoever beating the Rams and shouldn’t have any issues taking down the one-win 49ers on Sunday without Jones. It’s going to be an issue, however, if Jones’ injury persists as the team moves into the playoffs next month.
