Report: Western Michigan’s Joeviair Kennedy charged with murder, armed robbery

A tragic story out of Western Michigan University has resulted in murder and armed robbery charges for Joeviair Kennedy, a player on the basketball team.

“Joeviair Kennedy is due to be arraigned Monday in a Kalamazoo County court in Thursday’s fatal shooting of 19-year-old Jacob Jones in an off-campus apartment,” an Associated Press report said, via ESPN. “Prosecutors don’t know if the 20-year-old Muskegon man has an attorney yet.”

Kennedy is alleged to have killed Jones while trying to rob the victim of his phone and money. The report said that “others were present.”

In the same report, coach Steve Hawkins called the murder a “devastating tragedy for everybody involved.”

Kennedy was in his second year on the basketball team at Western Michigan.
