Falcons ‘anticipating’ Julio Jones can play Sunday, Mohamed Sanu out

With an impending matchup against a spunky and opportunistic LA Rams team, the Atlanta Falcons could use every ounce of help they could get.

That isn’t good news, then, that both wide receiver Mohamed Sanu and defensive end Adrian Clayborn have been ruled out of Sunday’s game with knee and groin injuries, respectively, per the AJC.

Additionally, wide receiver Julio Jones(Turf toe), left tackle Jake Matthews(Sprained knee) and safety Robinson Therezie (ankle) were all ruled “questionable” for the game.

Jones is expected to be a game-time decision for the Falcons, and losing the league’s leading receiver could prove to be a major blow when facing a defense that has one of the top pass rushes in the game.

“We’ll do some of the stuff tomorrow at the walk-through,” head coach Dan Quinn said. “Then Sunday we’ll let him go out and run some full-speed routes, go through the process. It’s not the catching. We just want to see the full speed routes. That’s what the plan is. His intent is right to go out and play. We are anticipating that, but we’ll see where it goes on Sunday morning.”

With the emergence of Taylor Gabriel, the loss of Sanu is offset some. Regardless, the Falcons promoted wide receiver Nick Williams from the practice squad, releasing cornerback Blidi Wreh-Wilson in a corresponding move.

The Falcons-Rams game will kick off at 4:25 ET.
