Broncos ‘hopeful’ Trevor Siemian can play Sunday

Trevor Siemian Broncos

Trevor Siemian missed Week 13’s game, but Gary Kubiak told reporters that the Denver Broncos are “hopeful” the quarterback will be back for Week 14.

This is certainly good news for Denver.

Paxton Lynch was drafted as the quarterback of the future and may well be. But in two starts his year, he’s played well below Siemian’s level. Lynch did lead the Broncos to victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 13. But really, that had more to do with going against Blake Bortles than anything else.

Lynch’s performance was rough. He completed only 12-of-24 passes for 104 yards and no touchdowns.

Siemian won’t remind anyone in Denver of the heydays of John Elway or Peyton Manning, but he’s at least managed games well. He’s completed 60 percent of his passes this season for 2,396 yards, 15 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 89.2 passer rating. Most importantly, the Broncos are 7-3 in those games.

Denver has four games remaining, all against potential playoff teams. The Broncos will need to be at their best to guarantee a spot in the playoffs. A healthy Siemian is an important piece of that puzzle.
