Bengals WR A.J. Green set to play this week

A.J. Green

The Cincinnati Bengals might be eliminated from playoff contention, but that’s not going to stop star receiver A.J. Green from getting back on to the field.

Out since Week 11 after suffering a torn hamstring, Green indicated Thursday that he will play this week against the Houston Texans.

This won’t help Cincinnati somehow turn around what has been a lost season for the team. It could, however, play a major role in the AFC Playoff race.

With Houston battling against the Tennessee Titans for the top spot in the AFC South, a loss to the Bengals would hurt their playoff chances. That’s where Green and his five consecutive 1,000-yard seasons comes into play.

Then, next week, Cincinnati is set to take on the Baltimore Ravens. Should Joe Flacco and Co. beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas, they’ll have an opportunity to clinch the AFC North in that game.

So while some might wonder why Green wants to return to the field with his team eliminated, it’s only fair that he gives it his best effort in an attempt to impact the playoff race.

Green has recorded 64 receptions for 964 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games this season.
