Reports: Astros acquire Brian McCann, sign Josh Reddick

Josh Reddick

Thursday has been a busy day for the Houston Astros. The club added two veterans, one in a trade, one via free agency.

Jon Morosi of The MLB Network reported that Houston acquired catcher Brian McCann from the New York Yankees.

With the emergence of Gary Sanchez at the end of the 2016 season, it’s certainly no surprise that the Yankees moved McCann. In all likelihood, McCann and Evan Gatis will split time behind the plate, with the other batting in the DH spot.

In 429 at-bats this past season, McCann hit 20 home runs while slashing at .242/.335/.413. When the 2017 season starts, McCann will be 33.

Shortly after, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reported that Houston signed free agent outfielder Josh Reddick.

Passan reported that the deal was for four years at more than $50 million.

Reddick split time between the Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016.

In 243 at-bats with Oakland, he hit eight home runs and slashed at .296/.368/.449. He was less successful in 155 at-bats with the Dodgers, slashing at .258/.307/.335 with only two home runs and nine RBI.
