Report: A’s sign former All-Star Matt Joyce to two-year contract

The always bargain shopping Oakland Athletics may have pulled off one of the best value deals thus far during the Major League Baseball offseason.

According to various reports, the A’s have signed veteran outfielder Matt Joyce to a two-year deal worth $11 million.

Joyce, 32, put up a .242 average with a solid .403 on-base percentage in 140 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates last season. He also hit 13 homers while driving in 42 runs in 231 at-bats.

The veteran figures to be a mainstay in the Athletics’ outfield this upcoming season, especially against right-handed pitching.

Joyce fits the A’s mold of getting on base. He racked up 59 walks compared to 67 strikeouts in limited duty last season and boasts a career .350 on-base percentage. It’s a perfect fit for the two sides, as he will get more action on what has to be considered a talent-stricken roster.
