Report: MLB, MLBPA come to terms on new collective bargaining agreement

Major League Baseball and the MLBPA had a midnight eastern deadline before their current collective bargaining agreement expired.

If an agreement had not been completed by that deadline, either an extension would have been granted or the owners would have voted whether to lock the players out.

We know very well the backstory of labor strife around the baseball world. Remember, the 1994 season and World Series was cancelled due to a players’ strike.

Fortunately for everyone involved, multiple reports are now surfacing that the two sides came to a last-minute agreement on a new CBA.

The details of the deal are not yet known. Some of the major sticking points were said to be the luxury tax for big payroll teams and qualifiying offer minimums to soon-to-be free agents could receive.

It sure looks like the issues that were reported between the two sides weren’t as prevalent as many had first imagined.

Now that this is settled, the baseball world can likely look forward to a foreseeable future with labor peace. That’s music to the ears of everyone involved.
