Report: Kings owner does not want to trade DeMarcus Cousins

DeMarcus Cousins trade

There has been a ton of chatter the past couple of years about the Sacramento Kings looking to trade center DeMarcus Cousins. But the most important voice on the matter put the kibosh on all that talk. According to Jackie McMullan of CSN New England, Kings owner Vivek Ranadive has no interest in the prospect of trading Cousins.

“I asked about Cousins just recently again, and Vivek Ranadive, the owner of the Sacramento Kings, does not want to trade DeMarcus Cousins. And so as long as that’s the case, all this talk is just that. It’s talk.”

Cousins remains one of the NBA’s premier centers. He’s averaging 27.5 points, 9.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1 steal and just under one block per game.

Unlike last year when Cousins clashed with head coach George Karl, he’s been getting along famously with new head coach Dave Joerger. He recently told reporters, “I like him and he likes me.”

Unfortunately, the Kings remains a losing organization to this point in the 2016-17 season. Sporting a 6-9 record, they have a lot of improvements to make in order to get over the hump and finally sport a winning record.

One of the ways that could happen in the long run is by trading Cousins, who is a valuable commodity. However, the Kings are trying to figure out how to win now, not a few years from now. With that in mind, it’s not surprising that Danadive isn’t interested in letting his dominant center go.
