Joe Flacco admits to ridiculous impulse buy

Joe Flacco

Baltimore Ravens’ star Joe Flacco believes he’s an elite quarterback, and elite quarterbacks apparently deserve elite massage chairs — or at least a bunch of them.

Flacco, who’s statistically a top-15 NFL quarterback this season, fessed up on a recent podcast that he once bought a “handful” of massage chairs. Ryan Mink of BaltimoreRavens.com reported the quarterback’s hasty spending, passing on that Flacco felt, in hindsight, the massive purchase was a mistake.

The jumbo massage chairs were his worst purchase.

“The dumbest thing I bought were … how many did I buy? … I bought a handful of massage chairs a few years back,” Flacco said, via the team website. “Like the big Brookstone ones that put you all the way back.”

Flacco went on to confess that he bought the chairs one night while playing card with tight end Dennis Pitta and their wives. Flacco saw an add for the massage chairs and decided that he wanted a few of them. Pitta may have played a role in egging the 6-foot-6, 245-pound quarterback on.

“Of course Pitta, he’s the ultimate peer pressure’er, the person who wants you to do dumb things. So he started getting in my ear about doing it. I might have gotten five of them, a couple thousand dollars each,” Flacco relayed.

Irony of ironies, even the massive massage chairs couldn’t fit Flacco, who’s easily one of the biggest quarterbacks in the NFL. And after thousands of dollars spent on trying to live the lavish lifestyle, Flacco ended up giving the chairs away to a member of the Ravens’ security staff.

One man’s trash was truly another’s treasure in this instance — a story that proves that even cerebral quarterback aren’t immune to stupid, impulse buys and peer pressure.

They’re just one of us.
