Jerry Tillery issues public apology for dirty plays against USC

Notre Dame defensive lineman Jerry Tillery made his name famous over the weekend when he was the author of two exceptionally dirty plays against USC.

Tillery walked by running back Aca’Cedric Ware and nudged him in the helmet after he had been knocked out cold by safety Nicco Fertitta, who earned a 15-yard targeting call and subsequent ejection. He then stomped on the ankle of offensive lineman Zach Banner late in the game.

His actions were so reprehensible that he was called out by his own teammate for his “dirty” play after the game (more on all of that here).

The good news?

Tillery has owned his mistakes and made a public apology for his actions on his Twitter account Monday.

We can all agree that Tillery deserves to be punished in some fashion for his outrageous behavior on the field.

At the same time, we can also applaud the sophomore for what appears to be a heartfelt apology in which he specifically highlights what he did to Ware, Banner and their families.

Well done, young man. Well done.
