Hue Jackson: Robert Griffin III to practice next week

Robert Griffin III

After getting injured in Week 1, Robert Griffin III will finally get back onto the practice field with the Cleveland Browns heading into the team’s Week 12 game.

ESPN’s Pat McManamon passed along Hue Jackson’s statement on the matter.

“He will have the opportunity to start practicing next week and go out there with his teammates and perform and do what he can do. But there will still be one more medical hurdle for him to clear to be totally cleared to play.”

Griffin III was placed on the team’s IR after breaking a bone in his shoulder on a hard hit in the first week of action this year. It was a crushing blow, not only to the quarterback but also the team that had high expectations for him.

He’s already expressed optimism about playing before the season is up (more about that here) and has obviously been cleared for football activities. Though, as McManamon reported, Griffin III still has one more test to pass before being cleared for a game.

The biggest question at this point is whether Jackson and the Browns would rather play RG3 or want to continue seeing what rookie Cody Kessler can do to finish the season out. Griffin III did not play well in the season opener, completing less than half his passes while throwing an interception.
