Corey Seager unanimously named NL Rookie of the Year

To the surprise of nobody, Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager was named National League Rookie of the Year on Monday. Per Bill Shaikin of The Los Angeles Times, Seager is a unanimous winner.

Trea Turner of the Washington Nationals and Seager’s teammate with the Dodgers, Kenta Maeda, were finalists along with Seager. But in reality, this was purely a formality.

The only thing that would have possibly kept Seager from winning unanimously would be the hesitance on the part of some voters to cast Rookie of the Year and MVP votes for the same person. As one of three MVP finalists (along with Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs and Washington’s Daniel Murphy), that lingered as a possibility.

But obviously, that didn’t hold anyone up.

Seager finished the year with a .308/.365/.512 slash line. He did that while playing the premium position of shortstop and was a center piece of Los Angeles’ NL West championship team.
