Mitchell, the Trojans’ starting slot receiver, had previously torn his right Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) as a true freshman in 2013 following a non-contact injury during summer practices.

As Mitchell went to return the Wildcats punt, he suffered a non-contact left knee injury and immediately dropped to the ground, clutching his knee and writhing in pain.

A key cog in the Trojans offense, Mitchell is a former high school track star who has dealt with with his share of injuries during his time at USC.

Finally healthy, Mitchell was beginning to exhibit the breathtaking speed and agility that made him a highly coveted prospect coming out of Mission Hills(CA) Bishop Alemany high school.

This injury is a potentially big blow to a USC offense that is just starting to find it’s groove behind redshirt freshman quarterback Sam Darnold.
