A’s and Smashmouth engage in epic Twitter war after Game 3

The guys in the once-popular music group Smashmouth are unabashed Bay Area-sports supporters and staunch San Francisco Giants fans. They aren’t afraid to throw shade when they feel local teams aren’t performing up to an acceptable standard.

This was something we saw unfold Saturday night after CoCo Crisp helped the Cleveland Indians take down the Chicago Cubs in Game 3 of the 2016 World Series.

As you might be aware, Crisp was extremely unhappy as a member of the Oakland Athletics this year and ended up being traded to the Indians.

Hearkening back to this fact Saturday night, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle tweeted,”Coco Crisp goes from accusing A’s of benching him to prevent $13M option from vesting to hitting key RBI single for Indians in World Series.”

And that’s when Smashmouth jumped headfirst into what was a lengthy and contentious Twitter war with the A’s.

Oakland has, in the past two years, gone from being a relevant franchise to one that has fallen on hard times. Many fans have grown frustrated by the team’s continued unwillingness to hang onto its top stars and bring in top free agents.

Then again, it’s not like Smashmouth has been relevant in the music world for a while, which is something the A’s seized upon in an amazing, WWE-style takedown midway through this fight.

We have no idea which band member was behind the initial attack or who is responsible for the Athletics’ Twitter account on the weekends. What we do know is that whoever it was that took down Smashmouth has zero chill.
